Michael McKee and William Seth McKee moved their families from Abbeville, SC to Jefferson County, MO sometime around 1815-1818.
At that time Missouri was not yet a state and there was plenty of open land ripe for the picking. Only Michael’s son, William, remained in Abbeville County, SC.
The county was organized in 1818 and named in honor of former President Thomas Jefferson.
Jefferson County is part of the St. Louis Metro Area and consists of many of the city’s southern suburbs.
