F.M.”, listed in the family bible was at first believed to have been female
based upon 1840-50 census records (in HH with Wm.& Nancy) but an article in the
Due West Telescope on 6/1/1862 states “died of typhoid pneumonia on the first
of June in Richmond, VA, F.M. McKee, SON of Wm. and Nancy McKee of Abbeville,
SC. He was just entering the 29th year of his age…member of Methodist Church
..left a devoted wife and little daughter…he died in the confederate service”

“Died of typhoid pneumonia on the first of June in Richmond, Va. F. M. McKee, son of Wm. and Nancy McKee of Abbeville, SC. He was just entering the twenty ninth year of his age…member of Methodist Church…left a devoted wife and little daughter…He died in the Confederate service.”
Enlisted in CSA–Orr’s Rifles, Co. G, Miller’s Company in Abbeville, South Carolina on March 19, 1862 by Lieutenant James Pratt for a period of 3 years or for duration of the war.
Died June 1, 1862 at Breedent Fox Hospital in Richmond, Virginia from pneumonia. Remarks on pay voucher–never received any pay.
In an affadavit signed by Gm. D. Miller, Captain of Company G, Orr’s Rifles it is stated that Frank M. McKee was born in Abbeville District, at the time of enlistment, was 28 years old, 6’1″ tall, black hair, blue eyes and occupation was listed as a miller. Burial spot is unknown.
Frank was the father of Mary Elizabeth McKee, he died when she was only a few months
old. I think he may have held off on enlistment because Martha was pregnant.
Charles or Cornelius Charles H. I wonder if the H is for Hamilton. My great
grandmother had an infant son to die, that she had named Hamilton F.
Probably Frances. He was their first child and lived 11 months. He and his
brother G.A. are buried at Gilgal in Abbeville, Co.
