Notes for Martha McKee:

From Wayne Adams

Martha Cooper was mentioned as his daughter on the will of Archibald McKee. Mackeys &

Allied Families (p680) makes this connection and  refers to the will of James Cooper (Charleston

14-137). That family information is incorporated into this file.  James Cooper’s will was written 6/6/

1771- extract on p680 of Mackeys book.

..Jerry Howe db has her birth as “about 1735” and picked up information on their children and

their grandchildren by son Ebenezer.  (I’m uncertain what source but incorporate that detail in

this db — possibly he contacted B.Owen who posted a query on GenForum which indicated

James Cooper Jr died in Abbeville Co, SC and mentions a Nancy Brown b 1794 “prob Abbeville”.

Chapter II

James Cooper, Williamsburg District, signed will 6 June 1771, naming wife, Martha and children: James Cooper, Jr., Janet, Margaret, Ann [b. 28 Aug. 1754], Joseph, Adam and William Cooper.  Executor: wife Martha and “my brother”, Samuel Cooper [Charleston County: 14-137]

A descendent of a slave who took the Cooper surname made a GenForum query.  Her ggparents Henry

& Elizabeth Eaddy Cooper were born in Kingstree, slaves on a plantaation.  After marrying the second

year of freedom they migrated to SE Georgia with their children.

Children of Martha McKee and James Cooper are:

2                 i.    Adam27 Cooper.

3                ii.    Ann Cooper, born August 28, 1754.

4               iii.    Janet Cooper.

5               iv.    Joseph Cooper.

Notes for Joseph Cooper:

GenForum doesn’t seem to have queries linking to the McKee’s or to Williamsburgh

but has a query concerning a Dr David Cooper born c1790 in SC & died 1854 in

Hancock Co, GA who was a son of Joseph Cooper.  That Joseph Cooper died in

Columbia Co, GA in 1827 or early 1828.  Son in law Claiborne Clifton married Joseph

Cooper’s daughter Mary c1800 and Mary Cooper Clifton died 4/13/1839 and was

buried in Washington St Cemetery, Columbia, SC.  This may or may not tie in with this

Joseph Cooper.

6                v.    Margaret Cooper.

7               vi.    William Cooper.

Notes for William Cooper:

This may be the William Cooper who married Jane James in 1751 (posted from James

tree)

Notes for James Cooper, Jr:

..source of death info & heirs = Jerry Howe db & GenForum postings.

===

..GenForum posting by B,Owen places James Cooper’s death in Abbeville Co, SC.  Also seeking more

info on  “Nancy Brown b 1794 prob Abbeville” so assume he or she is from the line of one of the

daughters that married a Brown.  It includes Archibald McKee among SC families being tracked.  Vonita

Bowers identifies herself as a descendent of James H through son John Lee.  She refers to James’ will in

Abbeville Distr 1807 showing distribution to children John Linn, Ebenezer, Auther M, Martha Elizabeth,

Mary, James H & Silas.
